The Gods Must Be Crazy (1980)

This weekend we were supposed to watch the movie about Africa. I saw the movie which name was the gods must be crazy. Before watched this movie, I had no idea. But when I watched this movie, this movie was so famous in Korea. This movie’s main character was Bushman. Bushman tribe lived in Kalahari, Africa. One day, a pilot flied high up in bushman village. He threw away the coke can. Bushman tribe did not know what coke can is. They believe the coke can that is god’s thing. One of the bushman who name was Kari is a head. He decided to go to the end of land for giving the coke can to god. On the way to go to the end of land, Kari passed through white men’s city. In there, Kari clashed with them. Therefore, he was arrested by white people. A man of learning about animal’s life whose name was Andrew Steyn and A journalist whose name was Kate Thompson helped Kari. Kari started to help their study work. At that time, communist terrorists escaped a prison. They held children. But they were arrested again by Kari. Also he saved children. Finally, Kari met again his family. This movie was kind of comedy. Kari’s action was so funny. And through this movie, I could know about the bushman tribe. This movie story was criticized about different culture between bushman people and white men. This movie was not only comedy but also had a lesson. It was so good movie.

To Sir, With Love (1967)

Today I saw the movie which name was To sir with love. Mark Thackeray was from Africa. His major was engineering. But He decided to teach until he got a job. He became to work in London which was very poor town. Students were not interested in studying. Teachers also were not interested in teaching. Mark Thackeray wanted to change students. He treated students as adults. He did not teach about the regular subject. Instead he talked with student about a life, death, love, or marriage something like that. Step by step, students were going to trust him. Finally they were changed by him. Students graduated and Mark got a job which he wanted. In the end of movie, he did not quit the teacher. He chose to teaching students. After saw the movie, it was very impressed. And I looked back on my life. I did not decide to go to America. It was my parents and sister’s decision. I just followed their decision. When I was in Boston, I did not have goal which must be achievement. I did not study hard. But I did not care about that. Because of nobody scolded me about that. Actually, I came here and chose Santa Monica College, because of my friend. Also at that time I did not have a goal. Honestly During take the class, I wan not interested in the class. But when I read a book and took the test, I started to care about my homework and grade. When I did not the homework, I felt uncomfortable. It was not simply because of teachers yelled at me. Finally I got a goal and desire about my study. I think I became an adult. My school and teachers help was very big reason. To be an adult is hard by oneself. I think it need somebody’s help as the movie.

After Presentations

After presentations, we saw our presentations. We did good job. Through presentations, we talked how to make good presentations. When we talk about the word which is very difficult or professional words, we write the word down on the board and explain the word. Using the easy word is better than using the difficult word. If we use easy words, listeners focus on the topic more easily. Some people just memorise their topic. We should memorize the topic. But also we should explain the topic. When we present the presentation, we should contact with listeners. Also we should pay attention to listener's reaction. If the listener looks confusing, you explain the topic more simply or detail. We care of our pose. For example, your hands were putted in the pockets or your arms twist. This poses make hard to attention the listener about the topic. I think, most important thing which is for good presentation is helping the listener to understand about the topic.

What did my classmates learn

I read my classmate's topic. Among them, I was interested in Yusuke's blog. Yusuke learned about the autocrat. The autocrat is the ruler who has complete power and does not care about people's opinion. The autocrat has a many enemies and kills people who disagree with the ruler. Stalin had many enemies. He didn't believe any people and killed many people. Because he was the autocrat. Yuki was interested in Trotsky's name. Trotsky's name was not real name. When he was arrested, he used a name which was Trotsky. Eiji was interested in Chinese history. He learned why China and Taiwan were separated. Kirvan liked to work in a group. Teahwa wrote about Karl Marx. Karl Marx changed classic philosophy. But I don't understand exactly what classic philosophy is.

Joseph Stalin

Joseph Stalin was a communist leader of Russia. He was born in 1879. He came from a poor background. His idea was come from Marxism. He introduced the five year plans. Such these plans, Stalin leaded winning from the war. Even though Stalin killed more people than Adolf Hitler he improved industries of Russia more than before.

The Getty Center

I went to the Getty Center whit my class mates on saturday. It was amazing. I was so impressed. I have never seen before like the Getty museum. We rode the tram for moving up. The tram was so cute. When we reached the Getty Center, I was surprised. Because the view was so good. We took the picture a lot. The Getty museum had a fore part of pavilions. The north pavilion exhibited the art before 1600. The east pavilion exhibited the art 1600~1800. The south pavilion exhibited the art 1600-1800. The west pavilion exhibited the art after 1800. We looked around every part of the pavilions. I was interested about the french furniture. It was great. but there was not many furniture. When I visited the fine art museum in Boston, I enjoyed a lot of french furniture. The Getty museum had a incredible garden and view. I spent so good time with my classmates in the great museum.

The Movie or The Book

I like the movie better than the book. Sometimes the book was difficult to understand to me. When I saw the movie, I felt easy to understand. The movie had a music and an image. So I could focus on the story easily. But the movie was not detail. For example, before the endurance was sunken, The shackleton and his crew saved their food and some stuff. This part was not described detail. If I red the book by my own language, I would be more enjoy than the movie. Because when I read a book, I can imagine about each a scene. It leaves something to be desired can't imagine the book very well. Therefore, when I read the book which is not my own langauge, I prefer to watch the movie.

Weighty Decisions

1. What were the principles and guiding questions that drove your group's decisions?

- We considered about utility. When we discuss about each items, we questioned that how can we use this item for surviving.

2. Which items were most difficult to agree on?

- Fresh water in canisters.
Of course water is most important thing. But it is just a bottle of water. I think we need a tool. For example like a filter. A filter can make water to use by salt water.

3. How did your group resolve any differences of opinion?

- When we had a different opinion, we presented about own opinion. Then we decided by majority.

ENDUARANCE Shackleton's Incredible Voyage

Endurance Shackleton's Incredible Voyage was written by Alfred Lansing. This book based on the real story. Sir. Ernest Shackleton was main character in this book was leader of the Endurance. The endurance was name of the ship. Shackleton came from a middle class background. He was bold and had an adventurous spirit. When he heard about the news of Scott's achievement, he made a plan for a Trans-Antarctic expedition. He started gathering some supporter and crews. Then he bought the ship for a Trans-Antarctic expedition. The ship name was Endurance. When Shackleton and his crew reached the Weddle sea of Antarctic, the ship was crushed by the ice. The ship was sinking. Frank Wild, the second-in-commend, told to the crew that it was time to give up the ship. Although the crew tried to keep away the flow of water coming in to the ship, they couldn't save the ship. Shackleton and his crew escaped from the ship. They established a camp on a solid floe near to the ship. Finally, Shackleton abandoned the Endurance.

In the morning

I always wake up at 5:00. I take a shower. Then I wear clothes. I check my homepage and e - mail. Then I eat the breakfast. I always eat a bowl of cereal and bagel. After finishing my breakfast, I get my things together. When I prepare everything to go to the school, I leave my house with my host mother. She picks me up to the school.

The Matrix 12 steps.

1. Neo who is office worker by day and professional computer programmer by night. He was in his apartment.
2. When he was doing the computer, his computer was appeared " If you want to know what the Matrix is, Follow the white rabbit."
3. One day he received a cellular phone. The phone ringed by Morpheus. " I didn't do anything !" Neo said to Morpheus.
4. Neo was encouraged by Morpheus.
5. Finally, Neo realized substance of Matrix and he escaped from Matrix. He became a Cyber - military by Morpheus's assistance.
6. When Neo and Morpheus in the Matrix, their companion betrayed them. Neo encountered a hacker exclusioner who had a strength.
7. Morpheus was caught by Smith. Neo and Trinity fought the Matrix personnel.
8. Finally, Neo saved Morpheus, But the enemy blocked a way out from Matrix.
9. Neo had to find a way out from Matrix.
10. Matrix personnel followed Neo, Neo fought with Smith.
11. When Neo fell down by smith's gun, Trinity made a declaration of love to Neo.
12. Neo was been rebirth. and he Became more powerful than before. He crushed the Matrix's power.

Is Odysseus a good leader ? If so, why ? If not, why not ?

Yes, he is good leader. When he went through many hardships, he always takes care of his crew. and he has a sense of responsibility. Sometimes his crew did not believe Odysseus. But it was not Odysseus's fault. I think, everybody has a selfish way of thinking. when they get into danger. That is why, his crew did not believe him. But every time Odysseus forgave them. I think he is also a generous man. Also he has social ability. When he got a strange Island, he tried to negotiate with the island owner. and he always became friends with them. And he is strong - willed about life and going back to his country. I think, Strong - willed is most important thing which leader has to have. If Odysseus does not have a strong - willed, they will not go back to their country. That is my opinion that I think about Odysseus.

The Blog of My Class Mate.

I looked around all of the my class mate's blog. They are spending good time in the Los Angeles. Some people live with host family as me , or live with their brothers, sisters and parents. Some people who live with host family are not satisfied about their family. However, In my case, I really love my host family. Whenever I need help, they always help me. Someday, I might be feel disappointed to them. But if I am good to them, they will be also good to me. I am pretty sure. Through the class mate's blog, I want to know about them and improve the my English writing skills.

Who is Buddy.

The Monkey Island was written by Paula Fox who was the Newbery Award - winning author of The Slave Dancer. When we red the Monkey Island, we knew about Buddy. Buddy who lived in the park was a homeless person. His job was to pick up the cans. He is a reasonable person. For example, One day, buddy found a credit card, but he did not covet what belong to another. In my opinion, I see from his behavior that he is a good man and does his best about everything.

My LA Life

I live in the Culver city with my host family. My host mother's job is nursing. She works in the Santa Monica. So my host mother picks me up to the school twice a week. I wake up at 5:00 every morning. because between my home and the school is a pretty far. When I ride in a my host mother's car, I arrive the school almost at 7:00. From that time I usually read a book and eat a breakfast in cafeteria until my class starts. After class, I meet my friends and eat a lunch. There is nothing special on weekdays. On weekend, I go to somewhere. This weekend, I went to the LA downtown. It was good. There were so many people and shopping malls. Actually, I was in Boston. I feel so different between the LA and Boston. These days, I try to adapt myself to new circumstances.
